How are wisdom teeth wise?

Last month, my wisdom tooth was bothering me a lot that I decided to go to the dentist. It had been about 10+ years since I went.

Why? Because I'm a wuss with anything in a lab coat. I had a bad experience with a doctor who screamed "Oh My God" with a huge ear infection. Yup, an ear infection. So my parents stopped taking me, since I would freak out every time they would tell me it's time to go to..

So I had two cavities, (not to bad for not going for a long time) and was told the silly wisdom teeth should be removed. One came in, cracked and is now decaying. Awesome.

Did the whole cavities thing a few weeks ago, let's just say I freak myself out for nothing. Hell I'll say it now. Waited awhile to make the consultation appt. for the wisdomers.

Today was that consultation. The surgeon said to me "you are the proud owner of 4 wisdom teeth" .. gee thanks. Of course I was nervous going to this, and he knew it. Got the whole speech of how long he's been doing it and how good he is. I'm sure he is good, I still don't want to do it.

I didn't make the appt. for the procedure. I swear the girl at reception had no idea what she was doing and was no help. So I need to call. Next week.

So I looked up about why they are called wisdom teeth per good old wikipedia:

"They are generally thought to be called wisdom teeth because they appear so late – much later than the other teeth, at an age where people are presumably "wiser" than as a child, when the other teeth erupt.[22] The term probably came as a translation of the Latin dens sapientiae."

Thanks. I rather call them, pain in the ass teeth.

Sigh, I guess I won't be wise anymore.
